Products for towing & recovery

Towing changes the maintenance schedule

Nearly every vehicle maker treats towing as severe service. Follow that schedule for engine oil, transmission fluid, and axle lube.

Keep the hydraulics ready

A recovery unit has to work on demand. Check hydraulic fluid level and condition at every service and before long-distance calls.

Products by equipment.

Confirm the lubricant type, grade, and specifications in each equipment manual before ordering.

Truck engines

Towing is severe service; match the engine maker’s specification and severe-duty schedule.

Wrecker and rollback hydraulics

Booms, beds, and wheel lifts list hydraulic fluid type and grade.

Axles and transmissions

Heavy loads raise drivetrain temperatures. Use the axle and transmission specification, including any limited-slip requirement.

Grease and corrosion

Pivots, winch components, and wheel-lift points need grease and corrosion protection.

Frequently asked questions

Do tow trucks need special gear oil?

They need the axle’s specified gear oil, often under severe-service intervals. Limited-slip axles may need a friction modifier.

How often should wrecker hydraulic fluid be changed?

Follow the body manufacturer’s interval, and sample fluid if it is exposed to heat or contamination.
