Short answer
Work out consumption from engine hours, oil capacities, and change intervals, then add the resupply lead time and a safety margin. Store lubricants sealed, dry, and indoors, rotate stock first in, first out, and use oil analysis to avoid unnecessary changes.
Calculate annual consumption
For each engine, multiply oil capacity by the expected number of changes per year, then add top-off oil. Do the same for filters, coolant, and fuel treatment.
Add lead time and margin
Island and remote resupply can take weeks or months and may be seasonal. Hold enough stock to cover the longest realistic gap plus a margin for an unexpected failure.
Store lubricants properly
Keep containers sealed, upright or on their sides as labeled, indoors, and out of temperature extremes. Water and dust contamination usually start in storage. Rotate stock first in, first out.
Use oil analysis to stretch supply safely
Oil analysis can confirm whether oil is still in good condition at a scheduled change, within the engine maker’s limits. Ship samples on a schedule that fits your mail or courier service.
